Virtual Sticky Notes

When I surf web pages, sometimes I come across a great paragraph or some key points that I want to save. Typically, I would favorite the page or copy and paste the passage into a Word document. That worked sometimes, but what if you could post a sticky note on the webpage with a little note that described why you decided to save it in the first place? What if you could highlight a paragraph of two, that way when you returned, what you wanted to remember will stand right out?

With Diigo, a Web 2.0 application, you can highlight paragraphs, add sticky notes, and bookmark pages with tags all in one account! If you have an existing Del.icio.us account, you can also import your bookmarks, AND Diigo can be set up for cross-bookmarking. What is that? Basically, a page you save with Diigo is also saved automatically to your Del.icio.us account, too. While I have found that function a bit flaky, the rest of the application has worked very well. Diigo has a toolbar that can be integrated into Internet Explorer or Firefox browsers to the tools are readily accessible.

Photo Remixing

Last month I addressed using digital photography in the classroom. But the following site is one of many which allow you to take your photographs to the next "level".

Picnik is a photo remixing website that allows you to upload photos and/or use existing photos in a Picasa, Flickr, or a Photobucket account. Once the picture is uploaded, Picnik offers a host of effects from editing the photo to changing aspects such as color, adding shapes, text, frames, etc. You can then save the image right back to your account or save the image back to your computer. The photo on the left is the one I edited in Picnik while the one on the right is the original image which was imported from my Flickr account. Sacre_Coeur.jpg1254807528_9281a547fa.jpg
